a special thank you to my dear friend, laura, who assisted that day and even went so far as to walk 15 minutes down the streets of dc to put quarters in my meter. you are the best :)

morgan is incredibly sweet and i have a feeling anita (my sister) is going to have to beat boys away with sticks in a few years if she isn’t already! seriously my niece is gorgeous :)

coleman is quiter and literally spent the day playing play station in my living room…haha…i loved how he was completely content doing his own thing. hopefully once he is a little older he can aid in the stick beatings :-)

aside from trying not to get hit by traffic, walking around in swampy fields, hearing bugs all around us but not actually being able to see them, and all the fun things that come along with tredging through a wild field at cox farms….i think we had fun taking these!

but really, molly + todd’s cuteness and clever sense of humor is contagious. the way todd teases molly reminds me of how boys tease girls in kindergarten. and their two pugs….OMG….they are so adorable i kind of want to take them home with me so i can put cute sweaters on them and torture them with bows in their hair. but yes, i know that would be weird. however,  the best part is that this little family is getting married in THREE days! this saturday, molly + todd will officially be husband and wife….and i am overly, ridiculously, abnormally, excited to shoot their wedding. :-)

molly + todd also share a huge love for wine (their wedding this weekend is at a vineyard) so to old town we went, walking down streets, alleyways, movie theaters…and of course ended up with a glass of wine at a bar ;-) it was a laid back and fun engagement session to say the least!

]]> http://www.myastrid.com/blog/the-luckiest/feed/ 0 balance. http://www.myastrid.com/blog/balance/ http://www.myastrid.com/blog/balance/#comments Wed, 18 Aug 2010 14:12:26 +0000 {a}strid http://www.myastrid.com/blog/?p=1577 it’s been pretty hectic lately in the Woltering household.  so hectic in fact that when chris and i stopped to think about it, we hadn’t gone out on a date night in over FOUR MONTHS. how in the world did THAT happen! date nights are usually a weekly occurance that somehow got swept away in the midst of all the chaos. learning to keep the balance is an ongoing learning curve that i am constantly trying to figure out. so to Rita’s we went in a frantic attempt to rectify the situation. because  truly, what problem can’t be fixed with 1,000 calories of cream, milk and sugar? so…. a vanilla custard in a waffle cone with strawberry-kiwi italian ice later, and a little bit was more right in the world.

at the moment, our house could possibly double as a construction zone. and with 3 full time jobs between the 2 of us, chris back at school, and me being smack in the middle of the busiest time of year- needless to say i feel like a chicken running around with it’s head cut off.  it seems for every item i cross off my “to do” list, i add 3 more. i try to sleep but can only stare at the ceiling thinking of that “one thing” i forgot to do today.  right when i think i have things figured out, the universe laughs and intervenes to remind me just how arrogant i am to think so. brings me back to one of my favorite quotes from when i was little. (this is from the serenity prayer- there’s that damn catholic school girl coming out in me again! :-) )

grant me the serenity to accept the things i cannot change

the courage to change the things i can

and the wisdom to know the difference.

patience for things that take time.

appreciation for all that i have.

tolerance for those with differenct struggles.

and the strength to try again even when it feels hopeless.

i’ve heard sometimes it’s best to stop and breathe. remember why you are doing what you are doing. remember what it’s going to take to get where you want to go. and remember the journey that brought you to this moment in the first place.

little bit more serious post than my usual socially awkward and random banter, but i try to write this blog as honestly as possible…it is as much my personal journey as it is a way to share my photography with everyone. i’m thinking another rita’s trips is in order  :)

when i look back at these images i smile and can only hope that every couple gets to experience their wedding day as fully as they did.i wish there were more words to describe how much i loved these two, this family, their details, and really just the entire day. but there aren’t so i will let the pictures tell the story :)

as always, a big hug and thank you to kelsey thompson for asking me to second shoot this wedding.  after going through these images i am so glad i did!
